The Sightless Ones
Would you stand at the final threshold
And into the blinding light behold?
If all your perceptions the flames consume,
Would you live sightless till new eyes bloom?
If, to hold your ground you choose
And measured passions you'd fain refuse,
Once more your eyes may fill with wonder
And spasms of divinity tear you asunder.
Seared by beams but unmoved I stood,
Till much in me reduced to dead wood.
New forms sprung forth in flashes white
For poets to confine lest they take flight.
The sky throws many faces at me:
Some of unrest, some of fury.
Yet one among them most appeals;
My bearing something alike conceals.
My face betrays an unguarded appetite;
A spirit of inquiry these sights excite.
Too lively for my body to contain,
My soul thrashes inside its frame.
